Oh My God
"Oh my god crafts music that employs the unlikely juxtaposition of Krautrock/prog architecture and Midwestern pop sensibilities....This hard-touring band has always been so good live that we've counted them as favorites....Onstage the trio sells it to the crowd with such energy, joy and power that we've often confused it for an actual noise or punk or hard-rock band." - Chicago Reader

Rademacher
"Close your eyes and imagine Steven Malkmus's crooning in Pavement. Now imagine Jack White's whining in the White Stripes. Now conjure up Karen O, Julian Casablancas, and Tom Waits all happily coexisting, swinging on a porch swing in the sun or sliding down a slide, whatever. Got 'em all floating around in your head? 'Kay, you can open your eyes now. Open your ears too, and go out and hear Rademacher. Lead singer Malcolm Sosa borrows a bit of each of the aforementioned vocalists' musical styles and pulls it off damn well. This Fresno-based quartet is full of tight melodies, gritty-smooth vocals, staccato guitar rhythms, and wide-open drumbeats." - SFBG

The Gold Medalists

Sex Vid
"Formed in 2005, the group has kept their heads down, releasing two seven-inchers (a third is on the way) and two cassettes, all of which fit in stride with the most aggressive classics American hardcore has produced in years. Consider releases like the Void side of the Faith/Void split LP, Die Kreuzen’s Cows and Beer EP and first full-length, the two singles by the Fix, or Poison Idea’s Kings of Punk, and the term “release” goes both ways; more than just the concept of a physical product being made available, these are strenuous, hard-bitten expulsions of repressed frustration played against the brute force that propels them. Sex Vid have constructed efforts that sit eye-to-eye with these classics, except that they exist in the here and now, and the group's hindsight and virtuosity allows them to continue to build upon new ideas within the constraints of the genre." - Dusted

Flood
More crushing slo-mo heaviness from right here in SF... For a while it seemed like most of the bands. Recently, there seems to be yet another heaving, pummeling wave of misanthropic metallic crush burbling to the surface. And now Flood, another band that seem to have a little Harvey Milk in 'em, which is NEVER a bad thing. A sludgey, doomy, lugubrious crawl, lots of space, chords sprawling and ringing out, the drums a sporadic pound, the song almost skeletal, until the band lock in and PULVERIZE." - Aquarius Records

Emeralds
"Seattle's Emeralds are real-deal space-prog-metal with a slight touch of glam.
And I love Hawkwind. The sloppy, stringy longhaired frontman in a ripped up Celtic Frost T-shirt climbed all over everything around him, audience included. Punks and metal heads and the dudes from Holy Ghost Revival were waking their arms and hats in the air, starting a little pit at times. In true metal fashion, the rhythm and lead guitarists showed off some hot licks, all while the bass player and drummer locked into the groove. The songs were long, technical pieces of metal that built and built to erupt at the apex, when everyone in the room would
suddenly lose their shit, myself included." - Seattle Weekly

Early Graves
"Sparing no one in their assault, Early Graves have patched together an impressive composite of underground metal propelled by its own destructive tendencies and uncompromising array of sheer heaviness." - Skratch Magazine
