"Cleveland, Ohio's THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY roots trace back to a housewarming party that Kulcsar threw in the fall of 2002, but its members are seasoned vets of the garage and punk scenes who have served time in such outfits as the Bassholes, the Lesbian Makers, the Chargers Street Gang, and Neon King Kong. Recorded in two 12-hour sessions at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio in Chicago, "It Takes a Nation of Assholes to Hold Us Back" explodes with a raw, art-punk aggressiveness that's both innovative and open-ended, offering an honest portrayal of the group's run-down Middle America surroundings with lyrics that touch on alienation, humor, oppression, and rage. Guitarist Buddy Akita paws out filth-driven noise in minute-long bursts from one tune to the next, while Kulcsar frantically screams like a rabid lunatic and noodles with a detuned keyboard. The rhythm section of bassist Lawrence Daniel Caswell and drummer Lamont "Bim" Thomas thunders noisily in the background, alternating between brutal avidity and blues-driven backbone." - SF Bay Guardian

Game-gotting Los Angeles-based comic BLAINE CAPATCH hosted Season 2 of the MTV show "Beat the Geeks", is the emcee for the LA Mexican wrestling spectacular Lucha Va VOOM, has written for MAD TV, and co-starred in the rock musical "White Trash Wins Lotto." He recently performed at Cobb's for their 25th anniversary series.

Club Chuckles favorite SHENG WANG is a Taiwanese Texan who developed and honed his comedy in the San Francisco Bay Area. His affable stage presence and absurdist bent, combined with a healthy penchant for 12-egg omelets, make his act accessible and hilarious. Sheng has also appeared on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham’, at the ‘Just for Laughs’ comedy festival in Montreal, and is currently toured the United States as a member of the "Comedians of Comedy" juggernaut with some guy named Patton.

Bridging the worlds of Weimar-era cabaret, garage rock, and neo-burlesque, THE POUBELLE TWINS wrestle with Lucha VaVOOM in Los Angeles, have appeared at the Velvet Hammer Burlesque and recently appeared in "The Treasures of Long Gone John," a documentary about the legendary record label, Sympathy for the Record Industry.

The T.I.T.S sound is underpinned by Mary Elizabeth's black-metal bass lines and Wendy's totally animal drum pound. Abbey's guitar lays down a simple rock riff, while Kim's emits a subtly oscillating sheet of feedback. Over the top, all four harmonise with a kind of semi-operatic, fantasy whisper. The effect is this inexplicable feel of time-travelling castle metal – of four ladies of the lake casting forth a single Excalibur, sinking it into stone so deep, no Arthur shall ever wield it. "Sinister's approach finds himself propped up in a manner not unlike the late great Bill Hicks, a refreshing literacy missing in a lot of so-called indie comedy (so it's probably worth mentioning Bucky's penned a bunch of books too). He sounds like someone who's spent a lot of time recuperating from godknowswhat on the past's punk circuit (something he sounds well versed in), crawling his way out of a pit of fellow rehab zombies immersed in trash TV. His observations reel off in the form of angry spittle and get downright speedfreaky at times, he's a compelling and funny listen and quite different." - WFMU

Biggi Vinkeloe Trio
"International free-jazzwoman Biggi Vinkeloe’s current two offerings feature her often times subtle alto saxophone and flute in the context of two very different trios. Born in Germany, Vinkeloe lived in France from the mid ‘70s through the mid ‘80s, subsequently resettling to Sweden where she currently resides. Along the way, she developed in tandem with a European free-improv scene that acquired its own distinct character.

Short improvs include duets that reveal graceful pairings of exquisite tone and timbre. Bassist Damon Smith and percussionist/vibist Kjell Nordeson, like Vinkeloe, bring a host of delicate colors on their respective musical palettes. Unhurried pieces like “Today the Sun is Blue” pair subtle arco bass with alto soliloquy, a theme that is repeated and joined by fragile vibe coloration. Beautiful combinations of bass with vibes or flute give parts of the session a relaxing air as short emotive personal vignettes are played out." - All About Jazz

Giant Skyflower Band
During a sabbatical from regular duties in The Skygreen Leopards, Glenn Donaldson (never one to rest) dreamt of Giant Skyflower Band, an exotic, flowery and crumbling new recording project with nods to fruity new age, psych, prog, folk, and pop songwriting. Donaldson quickly invited multi-instrumentalist Shayde Sartin to “smoke marijuana & make up strange pop songs, ” and thus the band was born. With Gong's seminal Magick Brother as a starting point and a sitar close at hand, the duo created a dark, peregrine pop transmission from their shoddy analog recording studio in San Francisco. Blood of the Sunworm is the duo’s debut offering.

Giant Skyflower’s purpose is to examine in detail the idiom of Bummer Psych; the strain of damaged Anglo-pop music pioneered by Syd Barrett that arguably reached its apex with The Television Personalities’ Painted Word LP in the mid-80’s, but found new life in Japan via the genius of Tori Kudo and like-minded acts such as Nagisa Ni te and Tenniscoats. Indeed, Blood of the Sunworm consists of depressing pop songs and damaged instrumentals - teeth bared and falling apart as they are cobbled together – on a hazy, cryptic journey through a busted kaleidoscope, behind a dusty mirror & up through the rafters.
