The Hemlock Tavern is located at 1131 Polk Street, in between Post & Sutter, one block east of Van Ness Ave., about 2 blocks north of the Great American Music Hall, in San Francisco's Lower Polk St. neighborhood.

The Hemlock Tavern is open 7 days a week from 4pm - 2am, and is strictly a "21 and older" bar. ID's are checked at the front door. Happy Hour runs daily from 4pm - 7pm, with $1 off all beers and cocktails. We have a daily roster of deejays spinning records from 6:00pm-8:30pm.

The Hemlock's award-winning jukebox is always free. We have $1 bags of hot peanuts for your snacking enjoyment. The bar itself is a 360° walk-around on two different levels and there are communal tables in addition to seating at the bar. The Hemlock has a legal, heated smoking lounge for the modern tobacco enthusiast into which patrons can bring their drinks. The smoking lounge is mostly enclosed but shielded from the street by some lovely plants and shrubs.

The Hemlock features a live performance room , physically separate from the main bar, that hosts 5-6 nights a week of non-mainstream local, national and international bands, music acts, comedy, and myriad entertainments. It's free to get into the main bar and then a cover is typically charged at the entrance to the music room to see the show.

Every Monday night, it's the Punk Rock Sideshow with DJ Tragic and the Duchess of Hazard (SF Bay Guardian Best of the Bay winner 2004) in the main bar.

" The solid crowd and the rock shows in the back room make the Hemlock Tavern great. But the good thing about the heated smoking room is that it doesn't feel like you're banished to the sidewalk; it feels like the VIP lounge. " - SF Bay Guardian Bars & Clubs, 12/04

" Showcasing some of the world's best underground rock bands, this microvenue has quickly become one of the city's best. " - SF Weekly
