SAD13 is a cyborg dog astrally projected from the recent past to save the middle school dance. Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz is Sad13.
“On November 11, the now-Philadelphia-based Dupuis will release her debut solo album under the Sad13 alias, Slugger, via Carpark. The first single, Get a Yes, is bedroom-pop in both senses. Ditching the tangled guitars of Speedy Ortiz, Dupuis instead leans on the synths she first broke out for 2015s Foil Deer, though musically the track still has a homespun intimacy its to a Carly Rae Jepsen song like All That what Jepsen is to, say, the bombastic slickness of the Chainsmokers. The lyrics, meanwhile, are direct about consent at first, maybe jarringly somewhere a Foil Deer song like Puffer would be cryptic. But again, Dupuis is a pioneer here. Ultimately, by bringing out the sensuality of affirmation, I say yes to my dress when I put it on…Dupuis delivers a low-key pop song that doesn’t just have a crucial message. It’s also pretty damn great.” – Pitchfork
VAGABON “finds various ways to flood the senses. It’ll either come in a harrowing lyric that sticks in the conscience, or it’ll arrive from a soft drone that gradually envelops.”- DIY Magazine
